We give you a few teaser exercises in advance that show how movement and learning come together. When you purchase a Cartesio Mat, you will receive 40 additional movement cards so you can get started right away.
Assignment: Provide an ordinary good colliding ball. Give the ball to the child and give a number. The child goes to the ball with the correct number and lets the ball collide with the number the same number of times.
For example: digit 3 the child bumps the ball 3 times on digit 3.
Goals: eye-hand coordination/number recognition
Game form in pairs: The children give each other an addition task: 2 + 2: collide 4 times on digit 4.
Assignment: Instruct the child to step across a colored line in a certain way. If necessary, make a combination of 2 or 3 tasks in succession.
For example:
Goals: balance, spatial awareness, visual skills, memory.
Game form in pairs: Child 1 recites a combination, child 2 tries to repeat this combination. Have them start with a combination of 2 line tasks.
Assignment: Provide a few pitterbags. Place these kernel bags in a hoop 1 meter in front of the mat.
Have the child take a kernel bag in each hand. Instruct each hand to take turns aiming at a particular digit. Repeat this task several times with a different digit. Use the numbers 4 to 6.
Goals: two strong hands/digit recognition/eye-hand coordination
Game form in pairs: The children pass the numbers to each other. Possibly also which
hand should throw first, left or right?
Task: Jump high with both feet to the number equal to the difference between 5 and 3
"Can you jump high and land deep through your legs again?
Jump with legs alternately spread and closed to the odd-numbered spheres.
'Can you do this without resting in between?'
Goals: number recognition/power development/general coordination
Game form in pairs: The children take turns performing these tasks.
Assignment: Have the child stand in front of the mat and give the following jumping assignments:
Goals: balance, strength development, coordination
Game form in pairs: The children try to jump side by side as far as they can. Over which lines can they jump from the red line.
